Feeding Pastures for Profit – NSW Mid North Coast – Bellingen

The Feeding Pastures for Profit (FPFP) program develops dairy farmer skills and decision making in growing and optimising pasture consumption.

Program Overview
Learn efficient ways to improve pasture utilisation through the practical coaching from Victorian dairy farm consultant Phil Shannan and agronomist, Josh Hack. Josh has been involved in FPFP across NSW as feedbase extension for Dairy NSW during which time he has built up a sound knowledge of the program. Since then, Josh has been working with farmers and FPFP groups with the implementation of concepts and changing seasonal conditions. Josh works closely with Phil Shannon on delivering the on farm days discussing the seasonal conditions and implementation of the feeding pastures for profit concepts. Josh has delivered on farm days FPFP days across over the past 5 years.

The program covers:
• Grazing management – understanding the science behind good grazing recommendations and introducing a ‘Rotation Right’ system
• Profitable feeding – the role of supplements and the interaction between grazing, supplement use and cow performance
• A practice based ‘individual’ system approach.
Program Delivery
Two days ‘up-front’ classroom style delivery plus five on-farm group days over the next 10-12 months. Each participant is entitled to a one off one-to-one consultation to support pasture rotation decisions utilising the ‘Rotation Right’ tool.
